World Wide Packets

Commercial Services Solution

LightningEdge CWDM Solution

World Wide Packets LightningEdge CWDM solution enables Cable Operators to increase the useable bandwidth of existing fiber infrastructure by a factor of ten, using 10-lambdas from 1430 nm to 1610 nm.

CWDM Optical Transceivers

World Wide Packets LightningEdge solution uses industry standard Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers. LightningEdge CWDM SFP transceivers are capable of operating at 100 Mb/s or 1 Gb/s. The operating speed is set automatically based on the specific LightningEdge SFP port the CWDM SFP transceiver is deployed in. These capabilities enable the CWDM solution to be directly integrated into the LightningEdge solution and provide several advantages over external CWDM solutions:

  • Integrated service and link management
  • Reduced rack space and cabling
  • Reduced power requirements
  • Increased reliability
  • Costs matched to subscriber take rates
  • Decreased inventory requirements

Passive CWDM LGX Modules

The passive components of existing CWDM implementations focus only on the simplex nature of the fiber plant, which adds significant cabling and configuration complexity wherever passive components are deployed with active switching platforms. World Wide Packets LightningEdge CWDM solution includes passive components specifically designed to support the duplex nature of Ethernet for deployments with active switching platforms, and simplex components for locations where Outside Plant (OSP) technicians will be responsible for the passives.

CWDM ModulesLightningEdge CWDM passive components are transparent to the line rate and support any mix of 100 Mb/s or 1 Gb/s line rates. Further, all passive components are GR-1221 and GR-1209 certified over time, temperature, humidity and vibration for reliable operation in real-world deployments.

Passive Mux/Demux

The passive Mux/Demux is a key component of the LightningEdge CWDM solution and is available in a 10-lambda OSP splice case-ready version, and a 10-lambda industry standard two-slot LGX form factor module for deployments in existing LGX bays at hub locations. The LGX module includes the Mux and Demux functionality on the same module providing a duplex interface that simplifies cabling to the LightningEdge switch platforms. The LGX module also includes an integrated expansion channel that supports existing downstream Amplitude Modulated (AM) feeds to the node and upstream digital return paths.

Passive CWDM Hardened OSP Components

World Wide Packets also offers two 3-port OADMs designed for OSP splice case deployment. The 3-port OADMs facilitate add/drop of a single lambda while the Wideband 3-port OADM provides an optical path for existing 1310 nm links for downstream AM feeds to the node and upstream digital return paths from the node.

World Wide Packets passive CWDM components offer distinct advantages over simplex designs when deploying an optical Ethernet Commercial Services network:

  • Adds up to 10-lambdas per pair of hub to node fiber
  • Integrated expansion port provides connectivity for existing hub to node optical links
  • Full-duplex architecture simplifies cabling at the hub, decreasing installation time and minimizing the potential for mistakes
  • Requires one-third the hub rack space of simplex Mux/Demux designs: 60 full duplex lambdas in 4 RU
  • OSP passives are designed to fit in existing splice cases and hardened to operate from –40° to +65° C
  • All passives are GR-1209 and GR-1221 certified for reliable operation
  • ITU-T G.694.2 compliant
